Horse Sense of the Carolinas
POETIX is in its second year serving incarcerated juvenile offenders committed to the Swannanoa Valley Youth Development Center, working in concert with the therapeutic Horse Power program designed to help clients recognize and use their personal resources.
The partnership was established to serve youth as part of Buncombe County’s Gang Violence Prevention Program, galvanizing the efforts of numerous agencies to address the growing gang threat to in the region.
LEAF in Schools & Streets
The arts-in-education outreach arm of the Lake Eden Arts Festival, LSS reaches thousands of students in the Asheville area through artist residencies in schools, after-school programs, and mentorship opportunities culminating in a performance at the bi-annual LEAF cultural arts festival.
Organized R.H.Y.M.E.
(Resources Helping Youth Manifest Empowerment)
POETIX is partnering with The Mediation Center to launch an outreach component of the Gang Violence Prevention Program, working closely with public housing community centers and faith-based organizations, and community members to provide after-school programming for at-risk youth.
NC Outward Bound School
Recognizing a parallel mission, specifically with NC Outward Bound’s UNITY Project to “empower communities of young people to initiate compassionate social change,” POETIX leverages community contacts to support UNITY students’ social justice campaign projects.
The Media Arts Project (MAP)
Since the before POETIX was formally established, The MAP has provided invaluable consulting and fiscal sponsorship for the program’s development and continued success.
Asheville Area Arts Council
POETIX provides teacher workshops, middle and high school student programs and production support for the WORD Slam competition involving numerous public and charter schools in the area.
The Poetix Vanguard
The performance arm of the POETIX program, PxV partners students with accomplished, professional poets to take stage at various festivals and productions and share their work with a full audience (often to wild applause or standing ovations!).
